The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is now available, and if it does as well as its predecessor, it could be the most popular foldable phone of the next year.
This new clamshell foldable was released at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event in August 2022, along with the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Watch 5, and Galaxy Buds 2 Pro. It has a small and elegant design, but it’s packed with powerful components.
This is the follow-up to the Galaxy Z Flip 3, which was a very popular phone that sold more than the Z Fold 3, according to Samsung’s numbers.
SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FLIP 4 – DEALS AND PRICING
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 starts at $999.99, £999, or AU$1,499. This is the same price as the Z Flip 3 everywhere but the UK. Given that prices are going up almost everywhere else, this is good news.
That’s for 128GB of storage. If you want more space for your photos and apps, you can get a 256GB model for $1,059.99/£1,059/AU$1,649 or a 512GB model for $1,179.99/£1,199/AU$1,849 instead.
The phone goes on sale on August 26. Pre-orders started on August 10 (August 11 in Australia), and you can buy it then. If you order from Samsung.com, you can get a free case and double your storage space for free, which is one of the best deals for launch. Check out all the pre-order deals for the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 right here.
In the U.S., buyers can get the phone for “free,” which means that their monthly bill will be lowered over the course of a contract. AT&T will give you $1,000 in bill credits over two years if you trade in any Galaxy phone, no matter how good or bad it is.
When you sign up for a new line on the Magenta MAX plan, T-Mobile will give you the same bill credits. Even though you’ll have to pay for the plan up front, it will pay for itself over time. Verizon will give you up to $800 for your old phone and an extra $200 if you switch from another carrier.
So, all the big U.S. phone companies will try to help you pay for this phone with $1,000.
SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FLIP 4 – DISPLAY AND DESIGN DEPARTMENT
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is a “clamshell” foldable phone, which means it looks like a regular phone until you fold it in half and it turns into a block that fits easily in your pocket. Samsung says that the phone can be bent more than 200,000 times without breaking.
Aluminum makes up the frame. Armor Aluminum, as Samsung calls it, is stronger than regular aluminum. Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ protects the cover screen. Samsung says this makes the screen up to 45% stronger than the Galaxy Z Flip 3. Samsung also says that the screen protector is stuck on better than before.
This is crucial since this phone only has IPX8 resistance, which implies it can be submerged in over a meter of water for a maximum of 30 minutes and can handle rain and splashes, but there is no certified protection against solid particles like sand or dust, and therefore better screen protector is all you have.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 weighs 187g, which isn’t too heavy, and its folded dimensions are 84.9 x 71.9 x 15.9-17.1 mm and its unfolded dimensions are 165.2 x 71.9 x 6.9 mm.
When the phone is open, it has a 6.7-inch, 2640 x 1080 AMOLED screen with a hole for the front camera. This screen has 426 pixels per inch, supports HDR10+, can get as bright as 1,200 nits, and can refresh up to 120 times per second.
A 1.9-inch cover screen is on the outside. The resolution of the cover screen is 512 x 260, and it only does a few simple things. For example, when you take a selfie, the cover screen could indeed display you the viewfinder and even give you a few options for how to line up your shot.
With SmartThings, you can also use the Galaxy Z Flip 4’s cover screen to control a smart home. You can also use Samsung Wallet to pay for things and change a few quick settings on your phone. Otherwise, you can use the cover screen and text-to-speech to see new notifications and even reply to a text message.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 comes in Bora Purple, Graphite, Pink Gold, and Blue color combinations. There is also the Bespoke Edition, which that lets you mix and match different colors for the front and back glass panels and the frame.
On Samsung’s Bespoke Studio website, you can combine white, yellow, green, navy blue, or red front and back panels with gold, black, or silver frames. With the Bespoke Edition, there are now over 70 different colors to choose from.
If you need your phone quickly but prefer a custom one, Samsung’s sales page suggests a few options that should ship the fastest. All the Bespoke Studio phones have 256GB of space.
SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FLIP 4 CAMERAS AND BATTERY DEPARTMENT
The Z Flip 4 has the same two cameras on the back as the Z Flip 3: a 12MP (f/1.8) main camera and a 12MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide camera. Even if you like to take selfies, it doesn’t matter because the 10MP (f/2.4) camera was taken from last year’s phone.
Samsung is making a big deal about the camera tricks you can do with the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Its “Flex Cam” mode folds the phone in half and lets you prop it up and aim it in more interesting ways than you could with a normal flat device.
There are new settings on the cover screen for seeing oneself in a varied aspect ratio for selfies, so you don’t simply see your eyes peering through a mail hole. While recording a video, you may shut the primary screen for a more compact grasp without interrupting the recording process.
The battery is better than before because it has 300mAh more power than the one in the Z Flip 3. That’s a big improvement on its own, and Samsung stated that the bigger battery will give you an extra three hours of use.
If you buy or already have a 25W power adapter, you can charge the Galaxy Z Flip 4 much faster than before. There won’t be an adapter in the package, but getting one is a good idea because a 25W adapter can charge the Z Flip 4 to 50% in about 30 minutes.
The Galaxy Z Flip 4 can also be charged wirelessly with 15W Qi chargers. With Wireless PowerShare, the Z Flip even can charge other Qi devices, such as the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.
SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FLIP 4 – POWER AND OTHER FEATURES
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 can be the most powerful device that can be folded into a small package. It has a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset that runs at up to 3.2GHz and is made of 4nm technology.
This chip is paired with 8GB of RAM, which is also not as much as on certain high-end phones but should be sufficient for most tasks. You can also choose between 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage (there is no microSD card slot), 5G, stereo speakers, and a fingerprint scanner on the side.

The phone comes out of the box with Android 12 and Samsung’s One UI 4.1. It also has all the Galaxy Z Flip-specific changes for the folding screen. Samsung is now testing Android 13 on the Galaxy S22 with its new One UI Beta group, but for now, the Z Flip 4 only has Android 12.
One feature that is unique to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is that the top and bottom halves of the screen can be used for different tasks at the same time, or they can be used separately. So, it’s not as good at multitasking as the Galaxy Z Fold 4, but it’s still better than most phones that don’t fold.
When you angle the device from 75 to 115 degrees, Flex Mode turns on. This splits the display and open up a second window, which some apps can use to add functionality. When the phone is in Flex Mode, Samsung has worked closely with WhatsApp, Google Meet, YouTube, and Netflix to add features. Also, while the display is able to bend, other apps will be able to use the trackpad and buttons on the bottom half of the screen.
The FlexCam is the Flex Mode app that people use the most. If you prefer to take videos or photos without having to hold the phone, you can turn it into a stand. Samsung has also made the shooting process much easier by adding automation and more wide angles.
