According to a report, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, has instructed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority to begin working on barring ‘unwanted’ short text messages (SMSs) on mobile phones. This information was shared by the authority.
PTA has implemented a whole new system that will prevent marketing text messages from being sent to mobile phones in order to comply with orders given by the premier.
The Authority has said that beginning on July 1, mobile operators will begin to implement the Opt-In and Opt-Out mechanism that is used by advertisers. At the very end of each and every marketing text message, there will be a link to unsubscribe. Users of mobile devices who click the link to opt out of receiving SMS marketing messages will have their numbers added to the block list. Users will only continue to receive the marketing SMS if they remain on the opt-in list. This applies only to those subscribers.

PTA informed that a list of telemarketers, made up of both letters and numbers, will be compiled. By June 21, all Cellular Mobile Operators must have approved alphanumeric IDs for telemarketers, brands, and organizations, and send the list to the PTA.
The PTA also said that the authority has begun to work on protecting citizens’ personal information.
